A pre-action letter is the first step before filing a lawsuit. Debtors respond to it: a letter from a lawyer signals that you mean business. Many disputes get resolved this way.

Why a pre-action letter from a lawyer is more effective
A pre-action letter is a legal requirement for awarding the costs of proceedings (Section 142a of the Czech Code of Civil Procedure, o. s. ř.): without it, the court will not award costs even if you win. A letter from a lawyer also has a much stronger psychological effect than a demand sent by you personally: the debtor sees that you mean business and that you have legal representation. With corporate debtors, roughly 60 to 70 percent respond to a lawyer's letter without the need for court proceedings. I will prepare a letter with a precise legal description of the claim and a reasonable deadline for performance.
